As Jamaican we are normally passionate about the Jamaica flag, hence the Jamaican flag has been one of the most popular flags next to the British flag that is flown in the UK. You can almost guarantee that at any major outdoor event there will be Jamaica flags.The Jamaica flags fly wherever there is a Jamaican owned business and even where Jamaican are primary consumers. Another popular place for the Jamaica flags is in cars and sometimes you will be surprised by the owners of those cars, as many of those car owners does not have any association with Jamaica itself, and these Jamaican flag owners are drawn from across the globe.

So why am I talking about flags, well in a competition of flags that have 192 entries conducted on Twitter a few days ago Jamaica emerged the winner. 298,000 people participated, there were 64 elimination rounds over six weeks. The final round saw Jamaica going head to head with South Africa. Jamaica narrowly takes the win with 50.7 percent of the votes and South Africa receiving 49.3 percent and Barbados took third place.

While there were no prizes for the winner, I guest it good to know that people around the world appreciate the Jamaica flag in very much the same way as people of the Jamaican global diaspora.
