The UK black community is a growing one with good potential to become economically strong. But how do we take our business endeavor to another level? Currently, there is a significant amount of black business people working across a wide sector of industry throughout the UK, but we know it is not enough to be truly respected as real contenders. Black businesses still log behind other minority groups in the UK, not because they are any less in ideas and capabilities but because of a range of barriers some of which are quite subtle but effective specially designed to ensure that the black community itself remains at the bottom of society.
Over the years many people from the Caribbean and African communities have taken up the challenges and rise above the barriers and make good. What we have also seen numerous black business giants emerged taking on high value billion pounds projects such as Nigerian businessman Adebayo Ogunlesi the owner and operator of Gatwick Airport.
The challenges now for more of us to follow and reach out into new arenas to build an awesome black economy worthy of the many talents within and where others can see and respect the community as serious in business delivery rather merely consumers. The black community also need to recognize and provide support to those businesses already operating, by spending with them and help to spread the words, not only as black-owned businesses but as businesses that are worthy in being colorless.
